新闻媒体似乎天然地更偏爱“坏消息”，甚至以“坏消息就是好消息”为职业信条。现代新闻业面临的一个现实困境是，很多曾经可以拿来做头条的“坏消息”，在今天却很难再引起读者关注。我们似乎从来都不缺这样的新闻，但“坏消息”层出不穷，日复一日年复一年，就让公众产生了钝感。

阈值上升，还会让我们更加谙熟社会运行的“潜规则”，变得更为世故。南京“彭宇案”之后，又陆续发生了几起助人为乐反被诬陷的纠纷，这让很多人开始意识到，如果有人跌倒千万不能去搀扶，否则易被讹诈医药费；“彭水诗案”、“灵宝帖案”、“稷山文案”、“高唐网案”之后，很多人知道“因言获罪”并没有退出历史舞台，眼见不平之事最好假装看不见。就这样，我们以世故规避助人为乐的风险，又以沉默纵容坏人作恶，成为这个社会溃败过程中的帮凶。
曾几何时，一群“不明真相”的群众的确以为“围观可以改变中国”。到后来，他们发现这个世界的运行规则并没有因为你的“围观”而改善，一觉醒来，贪污和腐败都在，不公平和非正义从未离开，凄惶的现实终于让我们意识到，“围观”也许并不是炸开鸿蒙世界的手榴弹，很多时候只是毫无威慑力的“酱油瓶”。
